It's the Small Things.... (April 6: Day 34--Navasota, TX)

Everything is bigger in Texas.  We keep hearing...and seeing....this over and over again.  But as we go through life, we realize that it is the small things in life that matter. (Do you think Texans realize this?).  So, for you, dear reader, I am sharing some of the small moments I have run across during my travels.... the small things....

Riding, I've seen some proclamations attached to various things that this is "The World's Smallest...."   Today, I ran across the worlds smallest Catholic Church.  Does that mean there is an even smaller church of a different denomination somewhere else?
If this is the world's smallest Catholic church, does this mean they have the world's shortest mass?  How about the world's smallest priest? And about the collection plate..... I guess if you didn't want to have a big wedding, this would be the place to do it.

I have also seen the world's smallest museum:
This place is perfect for people with ADD.....You're done before you have time to get bored.

I've seen a lot of museums and antique shops.  Sadly, it is hard to shop for antiques when on a bike; carrying them could present some difficulties.  Today, I passed through Warrenton, where they hold one of the largest antique shows in the country.  I passed miles and miles of event tents and antique shops.  Fortunately, the show ended Sunday, so not only did I save money, I missed having to ride through all of the traffic.  I did stop at one of the permanent shops in town--it is very disconcerting that they are selling things I grew up with as antiques!  Does that mean I am an antique?  Hmmm....

Well, I am in Texas, and I just can't get away from 'big'.  Mixed among the hundreds of tents for the antique show was the this big statue of a man advertising the car museum.....

Locals told me his name is Big George.  I am just hoping that none of that memorabilia includes things that I remember.....

I just love the names that are given to some of these towns....Truth or Consequences, Blessing, Comfort, Squeezepenny, Dime Box, Hoop and Holler, Gun Barrel City, Big Foot, Looneyville, Ding Dong....the list can go on and on.  Some definitely tell a story, like Gun Barrel, but what's up with Ding Dong?  What do you suppose their school mascot is??

Rumor has it that Bob Barker lived here.

So as I pedal along, listening to the click-click-click of my campy gears, the swoosh of my tires on the pavement and the roar of the wind in my ears, my mind tends to wander, skipping from one thought to the next with no logical connection. I think of some really great things I want to blog about, but, hours later, I can never remember what it was!  Sometimes my thoughts are profound, but most of the time they are pretty light....  For instance,  being in cowboy country made me think of some country western songs titles I have heard of lately.  I'd thought I'd share some with you:
      • "I've Missed You, But My Aim's Improvin' " (This is the theme song for Gun Barrel City.)
      • "If My Nose Was Running Money, Honey, I'd Blow It All on You"
      • "She Took My Ring and Gave Me the Finger"
      • "It's Hard to Kiss the Lips Tonight That Chewed My Ass All Day"
      • "Mama Get The Hammer, There's a Fly on Papa's Head"
      • "I'd Rather Have a Bottle in Front of Me than a Frontal Lobotomy"
      • "My Everyday Silver is Plastic"
      • "The High Cost of Low Living"
      • "You're the Reason Our Kids are So Ugly"
      • "He Went to Sleep and the Hogs Ate Him"
      • My favorite.."All My Exes Live in Texas"
A big thanks to my many, (ok, few) contributors!  Hope this made you laugh!

So, yes, it is the small things in life that bring the biggest smiles and the most joy....
