uh.....no thanks (March 8: Day 5- Blythe, CA)

Yes, I am getting an education while out on the road.  While riding, we came to a sea......a sea of cows.....

These babies were 'waiting' to be slaughtered.  There were cows as far as the eye could see.  It was gut wrenching.  Among the cows was a facility with a huge smoke stack....with smoking billowing.  It was so, so sad.  Did they know?

Dinner that night was at Sizzler....I couldn't do it.  I ate salmon.

The ride was very food oriented that day.....later, we came to the Chocolate Mountains.  Now that's a  girl's dream!!

How appropriate that I stopped to enjoy the majesty of these mountains while snacking on a chocolate power bar!

The valley is a mecca for farming. Only one side of the highway is farmed, while the other is protected wilderness.  It is amazing what a difference irrigation and man's hand makes in the landscape.

A food-themed post just wouldn't be complete without talking about our food on this trip.  We have been blessed to have a great chef, Linda.  She prepares our meals out of the back of a mobile converted trailer on a two burner propane stove; so far, the meals have been amazing!
I am hoping to lose weight on this trip.but at this rate, I don't know if that will happen.  She prepares very nutritious, hearty meals, that are a delight to the tastebuds, but perhaps not to the thighs....guess that's why I'm riding a bike.  Plus, there is beer and wine every night.  AAHHHH--------------
 Cheers!

  1. don't drink and bike----that's illegal!!! We don't want you to be put in jail in the middle of the desert. It would be so boring!!
